CHARLOTTE MASON EDUCATIONAL RETREAT, 2017
CHARLOTTE MASON EDUCATIONAL RETREAT, 2017
Community * Motivation * Education * Reflection
At the beginning of July, we weren’t sure if there was going to be another CMER. The first retreat was wonderful. We left rejoicing in the like-minded relationships we had formed over meals and sessions as we shared common struggles and victories without the need for explaining the lingo of a Charlotte Mason Education. We left motivated to finish our school year strong, overflowing with all we had learned. And we left unsure of the next step. Sadly, two of the team, Silvia and Heather, our dear friends from Texas, knew they could not continue with the project as the Lord was pointing them in other directions. We decided to commit the next several months to prayer and patience for clarity.
It was not until July when the answer came. Jennifer, Sarah, and I had the privilege to attend the Living Education Retreat (LER) this summer. We had a book-buying, book-listening, snacking, laughing, crying girl-trip driving through Colorado and across Nebraska to Okoboji, Iowa. As I sat in the meeting room between Jennifer and Sarah during the opening session and the team behind the LER introduced themselves, my heart moved, and I felt an urgency to pray. As we were fed with truth, beauty, goodness, and many treasured thoughts over the course of three days, I could not shake the idea that the CMER had to be. The stirring was happening with Jennifer and Sarah as well. I texted Karen, “We are at LER. We miss you. We are praying about doing a retreat in the Spring. Please be in prayer with us.” The Lord quickly answered the prayer with unanimity of spirit and mind, and we have been hard at work preparing for CMER 2017 over the past month. We are thankful to be able to introduce a new member of the team, Misty Sena. Please, take the time to read her speaker biography. For those who attended last year, many other wonderful changes are in store. Most of these you can read about on our Policies and Information page. However, there is one I specifically want to highlight here. This year you will be able to sign up for a two or three-day retreat. The first two days will be jam-packed with a plenary, immersions, workshops, and a chat. But come 5 PM on Saturday, when we begin the second day of the retreat, we enter a time of reflection, relationship, and relaxation. We have simply planned an evening of singing hymns around a fire pit and morning meditations. The rest of the time, we have opportunity for quiet for our souls, to think and ponder about all we have learned. We have time for the questions which didn’t get answered, time to learn about the sessions we didn’t get to attend, and time to continue to grow in the precious relationships we are forming with those around us. We have space to retreat on our own to read a book, write a letter, finish a journal entry, or simply just to be alone with God. We invite you to take part in the COMMUNITY, MOTIVATION, self-EDUCATION, and REFLECTION and join us at the Charlotte Mason Educational Retreat, 2017. |
