Charlotte Mason and Science
This page was created to share what I learn about Charlotte Mason and science. Nicole Williams has spent years researching and teaching on CM Science. She has generously shared her knowledge on her website, A Sabbath Mood Homeschool. I encourage you to visit her Living Science Hub. The ladies on Ambleside Online have done so as well and are in the process of adding science to every year. As I write, they have completed through year 8 and are testing year 9. They don't have a generic science page, but you can go to their sitemap and search "science" or look at the curriculum for the individual years to find what they have made available to the public.
The interesting question for me to tackle is what did Miss Mason do a century ago and what should we be doing now? This question must be viewed from two perspectives. First, HOW should we teach science? Second, WHAT should we be teaching? I fully believe Miss Mason will answer the first question for us. As a Charlotte Mason Educator, I have yet to find an area to which her educational methods and philosophies do not apply. As to the second question, my hypothesis is that while the subjects we cover will be similar to those covered by the PNEU schools, they will not be identical.
Here is my basic plan of attack. We'll see where it leads.
Here is my basic plan of attack. We'll see where it leads.
1. What did Charlotte Mason write in the Volumes?
2. What did Miss Mason and others write in the PR articles?
3. What subjects were taught as can be seen in the Programmes?
4. What other information can be found?
